Teaching Methodology and Teachers
At Geos NZ, all teachers are TESOL-qualified to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages. Geos NZ teachers come from New Zealand, England, Canada, the U.S.A., Scotland, Australia and other English-Speaking Countries. They have a wide range of experience and teaching styles, and students are exposed to a variety of approaches and accents.

Teaching Methodology at GeosNZ is skills-based. This means that we teach the 4 macro-skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Each macro skill can be divided into sub-skills; for example, Speaking is divided into pronunciation, rhythm and stress, conversation techniques, situational and functional language, etc. Grammar, structure and vocabulary development are taught across all the skills. The teaching approach at GeosNZ is communicative. This means that during the lessons, students are constantly involved in actively using English to communicate with their classmates and teachers in meaningful situations. Focus is on practical usage. Students are given a textbook to work from and the teacher supplies additional material from other books, newspapers, magazines, radio and TV broadcasts, songs, etc.
강의방법에 있어서는 Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing  4가지 중요한 요소를 중점으로 강의 하고 있으며 4개의 영역 중에서도  여러 가지로 구분하여 세밀하게 강의를 제공하고 있습니다.
예를 들어 Speaking에 있어서도 발음, 대화기술, 상황 설정 등 문법에 있어서 구조, 어휘력 개발 등으로 나누어 세밀이 가르치며 또한 의사소통 방법을 중요시 하여 선생님과 학생 사이에 수업시간 중 다양한 상황설정을 통해 실용적인 영어 능력향상에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 학생들은 주어진 교과서 이외에도 상황에 따라 부교재(책,신문,잡지,라디오,TV,노래) 등을 통하여 영어능력을 향상시킬 수 있습니다.
Students are interviewed and tested on arrival, and placed in a class that corresponds to their test result. There are 6 main levels of English at GeosNZ, from absolute beginner to advanced. Every 10 weeks, students are tested again, and if they pass the test, they can move up a level. Students who find their classes either too difficult or too easy, can, after talking to their teacher and academic counsellor, try another class.
학생들은 도착과 동시에 레벨테스트를 거치게 되며 그 결과에 따라서 각자의 레벨에 적당한 레벨의 반으로 배정 받게 됩니다.
6레벨을 기준으로 하여 초급부터 고급반 까지 있으며 보통 1개의 레벨을 완료하는데 10주의 기간이 소요됩니다. 그리고 학생들이 자신의 반이 레벨에 맞지 않다고 생각될 경우 선생님이나 카운셀러를 통해 다른 레벨로 옮길 수 있습니다.

General English

Format is Integrated Skills (Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing). Students use a core textbook (e.g. Headway, New Interchange, Cutting Edge) .Class work is theme-based: activities are focus on a weekly or bi-weekly topic, usually following the course book syllabus, so that students can develop useful vocabulary and share ideas in group discussions. Grammar and structure are introduced progressively and used in class communication activities. Homework is given regularly. Every 4 weeks, students are tested and their progress is assessed. Students who pass the test, and have consistently participated in class and completed their homework, can move to the next level. Those who find their class too easy or too difficult can ask to be moved to a more suitable level.
종합적인 영어(말하기, 듣기,읽기 ,쓰기)를 기본적으로 가르치며 학생들은 교과서(Headway, New Interchange, Cutting Edge)를 통해 기본적인 영어학습을 하게 됩니다. 또한 1주 혹은 2주 단위로 테마를 정하여 수업을 진행하게 되며 학생들은 이를 통하여 어휘력과 그룹 토의를 통하여 영어로 자신의 생각을 말하게 됩니다. 문법은 수업시간 중에 자연스럽게 사용되며 정기적인 과제를 통해 영어학습을 독려합니다. 레벨테스트를 4주단위로 보다 적합한 반에서 영어학습을 하도록 하고 있습니다.

Cambridge First Certificate and Cambridge Advanced English Preparation Courses
A 12- (or 6)-week full time course (23 hours/week) designed specifically for students interested in sitting the Cambridge examinations. The format of the exams (Use of English, Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking) is introduced and the classes are designed to teach the skills and language necessary to pass the exam. These include interview techniques, essay writing, reading for gist and for specific information, grammar and vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and phrasal verbs.
Entry level: Upper Intermediate A (FCE); Upper Intermediate B (CAE)

Cambridge 시험 준비과정

A five-week full-time course preparing students for the IELTS examination. Class work follows the format of the exam (Reading, Writing, Interview and Listening), with emphasis on skills like writing analytical essays, describing figures and graphs, reading academic texts for general meaning and specific information, asking questions and participating in discussions, and presenting organised, developed answers to questions
Entry level: Finishing Intermediate 2.

IELTS 준비과정

English for Business Purposes (EBP)
A five-week course based on the syllabus of the Cambridge Business English (BEC) examination. The course uses authentic materials, role-plays and simulations to provide a realistic preparation for those needing to use English in the work-place.
Topics covered include: letters, faxes, and memos; telephone technique; international trade; marketing; meetings; sales and negotiation.
비즈니스 잉글리쉬
5주단위로 개강하며 Cambridge Business English(BEC)를 사용하여 강의합니다.
이 코스는 인정된 교재를 통하여 Role-Plays와 비즈니스에 있어서 실제로 필요한 영어를 시뮬레이션화 하여 강의 합니다.
주 과제는 편지, 팩스보내기, 메모관리, 전화응대, 국제무역, 마케팅, 미팅, 세일과 협상을 과제로 합니다.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Preparation Course
A 5-week full time course (23 hours/week) focusing on language skills relevant to this test. The TOEFL preparation course focuses primarily on listening comprehension, structure and vocabulary development. A wide range of language, from idiomatic, informal English, to very literary, formal English, is introduced and practised. Practice tests (on computers) are part of the programme.
Entry level; Intermediate.

The Cambridge University Teachers Knowledge Test (TKT)
We are proud to announce that candidates for our TESOL course will also sit the new Cambridge University TKT exam, which will give them an internationally recognised certificate. The exam fee is included in the course fee. Cambridge University which is famous for its native speaker qualifications such as the CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) has now started an exam for non native teachers. The TKT exams can be taken around the world and for the first time offers teachers an internationally recognised standard.

An Overview of TKT
TKT tests professional knowledge about the teaching of English to speakers of other languages. It should be noted that TKT tests teaching knowledge rather than teaching ability and that language proficiency, e.g. listening, speaking and extended writing, are not tested.
TKT can be taken at any stage in a teacher’s career and offers candidates a step in their professional development and enables them to move on to higher-level teaching qualifications and access professional support materials such as journals about English language teaching (ELT).
An Overview of TKT

The TKT Exam format and syllabus areas
TKT consists of three free-standing modules each testing different areas of teaching knowledge. There are 80 questions in each module.

Who is the TESOL course for?
TESOL participants are either practising or aspiring English language teachers. Participants have come from a range of backgrounds. Some participants have just finished university; some from the business world and some have already been teaching but want to upgrade their skills.

What are the TESOL entry requirements?
Participants should have an IELTS score (or equivalent) of between 5.0 and 6.0 (General or Academic) or Cambridge First Certificate ‘A’ or ‘B’ pass. Participants without IELTS should have a ‘good intermediate’ level of spoken English fluency.
You may also be a graduate from our 3 or 5 week Language Improvement for Teachers (LIFT) course, which runs prior to the TESOL course. The LIFT course is designed to improve the teacher’s language skills before the TESOL

TESOL 입학자격

Book a full time course of 12 weeks or more for a minimum stay of 4 weeks in two cities, Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch and get a FREE return air ticket between the two cities.
Superlink bookings must be requested at the time of original registration. A student who has already commenced a course cannot alter the registration to a Superlink. Minimum six weeks prior booking is required.

 Hostels and Backpackers
There are many backpackers and hostels throughout New Zealand. There is a wide range of choice, price and quality. The Youth Hostel Association of New Zealand has many facilities, and there is a variety of other hostels and backpackers which offer budget accommodation for travellers. Students can choose and individual, shared room or dormitory. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are communal. Prices range from NZ$90 to NZ$220 per week, depending on the location and quality.

Renting a flat or finding share accommodation
Some students prefer to rent an apartment, or to find someone who is looking for a flatmate. Advertisements for Flats to rent and roommates wanted can be found in the local newspapers or on the Geos NZ notice boards where accommodation notices are displayed. Finding a flat for short-term rental can be time-consuming and difficult. Students will often be required to pay a bond (one - three month’s rent in advance). It is often better to look for someone who needs a roommate.

일부 학생들은 아파트를 빌리거나 다른 학생과 같이 집을 함께 사용하는 것을 선호하기도 합니다. 플랫이나 룸메이트 광고는 현지 신문이나 GEOS NZ 게시판을 통해 쉽게 접할 수 있습니다. 단기 임대는 시간이 많이 걸릴 뿐만 아니라 찾기가 매우 어렵습니다. 학생들은 보통 보증금을 예치(1-3달 전에 임대해야 함)해야 하기 때문에 룸메이트 광고를 찾아보는 것이 보다 유리합니다.

• General English Part-time = Monday-Friday, 9.00 am - 12.15 pm (includes 1 break for 15 mins)

Airport Pick-Up Service  공항마중 서비스

• School staff greets students at Wellington airport and takes them directly to accommodation or school.
• School staff are always located by Baggage Collection and will hold an WLC sign with GEOS logo and student’s name for easy identification
• Emergency airport transfer contact number is 04 472 4068 for 24 hour student emergency hotline.

Homestay Accommodation  홈스테이 서비스

• $200 per week, payable to WLC
• Half-board (no lunch) weekdays, full-board on weekends.
• Usually 1 to 2 students per family in single rooms, being of different nationalities
• Some homestay families live within walking distance to our School
• Other students travel by bus or train up to 30 minutes. All buses stop near the School

• 홈스테이 비용은 주당 $200 이며 웰링톤 학교에 지불하게 됩니다.
• 주중은 Half Board(1일 2식 제공, 점심제외) 기준이며 주말은 Full Board(1일 3식 제공) 입니다.
• 보통 한 가정엔 국적이 다른 1~2명의 학생이 1인 1실을 사용하게 됩니다.
• 몇몇 홈스테이는 학교에서 도보거리에 위치해 있기도 합니다.

주말활동

• A weekly bus pass costs between $10 to $25, depending on the distance travelled.
