The time expression “last night” requires use of past tense.

Much of language teaching is about conveying and checking the meaning of new language.

• How would you convey the meaning of the underlined language items below?
• How could you check that your meaning conveyance was successful?

The first one is done for you as an example.

Turn in is a way to say “go to sleep for the night.”
