About the CELTA at Auckland Language Centre

The CELTA is the most widely recognised English language teaching qualification in the world. It is designed for people with limited or no previous teaching experience who are interested in increasing their professional qualifications or in starting a new career. The courses are run at Cambridge University CELTA centres worldwide all year round. Cambridge University approves all aspects of the course including the programme, the trainers, and facilities. Course tutors are experienced English language teachers who have taught in a wide range of professional situations and are accredited CELTA trainers. Every course is externally assessed by Cambridge, ensuring that the most rigorous standards are maintained.

The Course

The core of each CELTA course is six hours of teaching practice. In this time, trainee teachers teach a variety of lesson types to adult learners of English at two different levels. The supervised teaching practice is supported with guided lesson planning and personalised feedback on lessons. The methodology input includes demonstration lessons, discussion of teaching principles and techniques, materials evaluation, and language analysis for teaching purposes. Trainee teachers also observe experienced teachers and teacher trainers in language classes. In addition, there are four assignments on topics involving language teaching and learning.
