games, socratic dialogue, brainstorming, field work, simulations,
collaborative, inquiry, modeling, discovery, case studies, debate,
dramatisation, and so on.

Teachit's English teaching resources
Teachit is a tried and trusted education resource used by thousands of teachers nationwide. Specialising in English, Drama and Media Studies from primary to post-16, the online Teachit library offers 9,360 pages of classroom materials, schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching tools, all created by working teachers and - thanks to our team of Teachit contributors - constantly growing.
A phenomenal success since its launch in 1999, Teachit now represents a huge online community of teachers sharing resources to help focus their efforts in planning lessons. Teachit takes a unique approach to educational publishing. Founded by English teacher Siobhain Archer in 1999 as a spare-time addition to her teaching workload, the online library of learning resources rapidly gathered its own momentum as her colleagues discovered the value of sharing their teaching materials. A compelling example of the true utility of the internet, Teachit grew unstoppably in response to its users' needs.
Teachit's subscription services, offering editable content and online access for ICT lessons, enable Teachit to function as a small, no-frills business, but more importantly, to share a proportion of revenues with its contributor network of teachers in the classroom.

Taking Languages from Primary to Secondary
Over the next few years increasing numbers of pupils moving from primary to secondary school in Scotland will have had some foreign language teaching. What is important to ensure that the benefits of this are built on at secondary?
Professor Richard Johnstone, Head of the Department of Education at Stirling University and Director of the Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching & Research, is co-director of the independent evaluation of the national pilot projects on teaching foreign languages at primary school Below, in a personal reflection, he discusses the considerations relevant to taking languages from primary to secondary.
OF THE POSSIBLE MODELS for introducing a modern foreign language in primary schools, Scotland has opted for one based on embedding. In Embedding the language is not presented as a separate subject (as it is at secondary) but is exploited within the existing broad areas of the primary school curriculum. Embedding differs not only from subject-teaching but also from two other approaches.
